Shpongle's 5th album, just came out!

Just thought I'd pass this tip along...

Simon was saying on Facebook that when you listen to track 6, The Epiphany of Ms. Kulga, for the first time, you should make sure you are sitting in the center of two speakers, turned up as loud as possible. He said you only get one shot to experience the "Kulga effect" that they tried to add to it. I don't know if the Kulga effect is a real thing or something they made up, but I haven't listened to it yet. I need to be right Shpongled when I hear it and I haven't had time for all that madness yet. But just thought you all fellow Shponglenauts should know!

Hmm lol. I'd try it if I had proper speakers for such a thing. The album is really, really good btw. The first track though, in my opinion is one of Shpongle's weakest tracks. It's kind of weird, it's so far below the others that it doesn't really seem to fit on the album. The rest though are superb quality psychedelic music. The production is masterful, very very clean and detailed. Beautiful album, definitely meant for the dancefloor.

Well, after reading Simon's Reddit AMA, I think they just made it up. Still haven't listened yet but I imagine it's just some more sonic trickery from him. I have listened to the first 2 tracks though. The first track, the beginning reminded me a lot of No Turn Unstoned which is probably my least favorite Shpongle song. It's not a bad song, but it's not really my particular taste for the most part. I mean, it's Shpongle and I can appreciate it as such, with extremely high regard but as far as Shpongle goes, I have other preferences. Anyway, the second half reminded me more of a trancey vibe, almost like the Crystal Skulls tunes. I liked the second half a lot actually though. Different vibe of production though. It's much cleaner production wise than any of their other stuff, though Ineffable Mysteries had that vibe too. But I do kind of like that old darker production style. A little less saturated sounding, color wise, not harmonically. Or maybe both... I heard the second track once so far and from I remember I enjoyed it and thought it was overall more solid than the first, all things considered.

I have it all downloaded in FLAC and everything but I haven't listened yet because I may have a good opportunity to do it quite Shpongled so that's usually my preference! Can't wait for the vinyl to arrive too! I don't even have a good record player but I'll figure out a way to hear it lol.
