Ke$ha, while not being a synthpop artist specifically, definitely has elements of synthpop. Then again, you could say the same thing about KMFDM or Nine Inch Nails.

Influence like that can be seen back to, oh, the late 1980s or so. That's when Reznor could have been caught jamming in Slam Bamboo, a super-tight synthpop band that Scene once said "has everything it takes to make it big."

Anyway, fair warning: This is the best thing you'll watch all day.

a friend of mine who dj over 20 years in electronic music (synthpop, futurepop, ebm, industrial, electro, darkwave) told me this about that ke$ha song...
"This is not synthpop. No way!!!. It's a mixture of many musical elements turned into some mainstream wannabecool music."

I agree with what you said about Kesha not being a synthpop artist and i realized that the before i started the topic with her. It was actually an attempt to show the variance of 21st century synthpop and that i wasn't just making a topic about the classic synthpop. Synthpop got big back in the late 70s and 80s and I appreciate a lot of the classics. But that's one reason i named this topic favorite synthpop songs. If the song has elements that make it distinctively elecro/synth mixed with pop, its a synthpop song in my opinion, or at least close enough for my intended purposes of this topic.
Your comment about NIN reminds of the first album by Ministry(1983), sounded very much like synthpop, a band that by the mid 80s and today, sounds completely different. I might post a song from that album later.
If you got any synthpop songs by KMFDM, I'd like to hear them. KMFDM always sounds so industrial, mixed with electro and rock. But i doubt I've heard everything by KMFDM, as they have put out a lot of music.

Thanks for sharing tha Slam Bamboo, i'd dont recall hearing that one before.

Your DJ friend is certainly entitled to his opinion and i would agree that kesha does mix a lot of styles together; one of them being synthpop.

...HAH!

I like how Ministry went from straight-up Synthpop to something else ENTIRELY in their later years. ^_^

It's interesting to me that "Synthpop" has evolved as it has. You have the early Synthpop, a-la Depeche Mode / Erasure / Pet Shop Boys / OMD / etc., and contemporary Synthpop, like Wolfsheim, Beborn Beton, And One, DE/Vision, etc.

To compare and contrast Synthpop between then and now, I present:

artist: Camoflague
song: The Great Commandment

and

artist: Wolfsheim
song: Find You're Here + Find You're Gone

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyrFko0C5Pk

(The Wolfsheim video is actually two separate songs / videos, played consecutively. Enjoy.) :)
