lol bs. Maiden has better musicians, tighter songwriting, better lyrics, more consistency. Just better in every respect. Metallica is cool, they are one of the better metal bands but just not on the same level as Maiden. Or Priest for that matter.
Strip away the fast downpicking of the low E and metallica songs are really not that special.

I'm not butthurt... lol wtf?
I'm not talking about simplicity per se, I don't think Metallica is simplistic. I think that Maiden's songs are better constructed, and they are better musicians.

but it stems down to what you said... they are different styles and different genres, Metallica will always be better at what they do as you can say the same for Maiden in respect to their style.

I do believe that Metallica's reception is more successful and I wouldn't suggest that Maiden as a whole is more talented than them.

lol now you're just talking directly outa your arse

With regards to
Here's a question for you guys, what's the most underrated song from both artists? My response will follow.

Priest - Lochness is an underrated song, perhaps maybe Wheels of Fire aswell.
Maiden - Sign of the Cross. Iron Maidens heavily underrated masterpiece, a far superior song to Rime of the Ancient Mariner and ofc, Hallowed Be Thy Name.

Metallica have never, nor will ever achieve the greatness of Maiden. FACT

Slayer cannot even be in this conversation, and i'm a massive Slayer fan <_<

Metal doesn't have to be heavy. So Maiden doesn't construct their songs around open string power chords... big deal.

This.

Iron Maiden have a much larger following and fanbase worldwide than Metallica do in the 2 biggest continents rofl, it's not even close.
If you wanna talk Musicians, lets look at your beloved Metallica drummer. The most undeserving Drummer in all of history, no-one deserves less credit than Lars fucking Ulrich. Then you compare to Nicko from Maiden, Nicko is 10/10 better, just is. Lars will never get off the Snare, and has never written a drumline that can challenge Nicko on a bad day.

Then lets look at lead guitarists.

Kirk Hammet - knows 1 scale very well, thats nice, written a few really nice melodies
Adrian Smith - Riff demon, techincally superior to the other Maiden guitarists and shits on Kirk
Dave Murray - that cute baby face is also a shred demon, riff-a-holic and again, will outplay and outwrite Kirk any day of the week
Jannick Gers - has nice hair, throws guitar up high, still better than Kirk lol

I love Hetfield, He's one of my favourite frontmen that i've seen live, but he's no Brucee and Maiden without Bruce is incomplete Maiden (for the record Kalmah)

Great topic btw - gz op ^_^

I'll agree with the bold because I believe Metallica took a nosedive after the Black Album however I feel that if Metallica had broken up after that album they'd be a better band. I happen to think that Metallica is superior lyrically, especially their stuff on Master of Puppets, while Maiden tends to write a better chorus.

Eh, I just think to an extent most Maiden albums sound the same after a certain point and kind of have a juvenile, for lack of a better term, feel to them. Metallica's earlier lyrics had some of that but had some damned good songwriting (see Disposable Heroes).

They went in a totally different direction when they picked up Bruce over Paul electing to make over-the-top metal that can fill stadiums instead of a more punk oriented type of music which probably would appeal to a smaller audience. I wonder what would have happened if they didn't ever pick Bruce up and instead went in the punk direction, maybe then we wouldn't have 20 or so albums that are basically the same thing. To me Killers was the best the band could have produced and they never came close to what they made on that one again even if they released several albums worth listening to.

Well, I don't like Punk so I loved the direction after Paul and with Bruce - and with regards to Maiden albums sounding the same, I cannot disagree with that (excluding the 3 proggy albums) yes, triplet power chords ftw.
