Any other favorites besides Orchid and Refused?

Hmmm, I will have to check my old computer in a few minutes here. I'll post back in a bit if I find something worth posting. It's been quite a while since I've really listened to screamo and similar genres but chances are there's something lying around, we'll see haha. I never got really deep into the genre, I guess at the time it was just about as much intensity as I could handle lol. I'd love to hear more of other people's posts as well and get reacquainted with the genre now that my tolerance for chaotic music is higher haha. A lot of what I listened to around the time was more punk oriented like Refused or even grindcore influenced which, again, is similar but not really the same. There's a band called Hot Cross that sort of reminds me of the screamo style as well but honestly they're more rooted in punk. Anyway, I'll check out my iTunes and see if I can find anything. In the meantime I'd love to hear other people's favorites too!

Cool! Yeah ive had my share of grindcore as well, Magrudergrind as example.
Hot Cross, by the way, is a band with the singer (and I think one of the guitarists) of Saetia, made after Saetia stopped. Im not very fond of them, eventhough Billy Werner (singer) is a hero!

Oh hey that's pretty interesting. Now that you mention I feel like I've heard that before though I've never really listened to Saetia. I'll definitely have to check them out. As far as Hot Cross goes they're later releases really couldn't hold up to their earlier work in my opinion so I can definitely understand your perspective.

Alright, well chances are you'll like Saetia then. It's not nearly as hard and loud as most screamo is, but it's very emotional and musically brilliant

edit: heh, and youll recognize the vocals from hot cross in this song

Haha yeah he definitely sounds younger and his screams are more intense. I like it, it's definitely a different vain than Hot Cross but I've always been a fan of his lyrics and his whole perspective on things. I like seeing where he came from; it helps me put Hot Cross into a new context as well. Musically, it seems like it must have had a very influential sound on a lot of modern day post-punk and hardcore. As obscure of a genre as screamo is, it sure has left it's mark on the music world.

Yeah for sure, I can safely say this band is one of the biggest influences on my own band, and for a lot of well known bands too.
Good to see youve noticed his lyrics too. I cant say much about his lyrics in Hot Cross, since ive never read them, but his lyrics in Saetia are poetry of the highest grade. Simply amazing!

Yeah, lyrics are very central to this type of music as I see it. Crucial, in fact. I don't really know the newer Hot Cross lyrics since I never really got into any of their newer stuff but A New Set Of Lungs has some fantastic lyrics about just life lessons and such which I find I can connect with on a very simple, humanistic level.

Also: great to hear that you play music! Playing music, for me, is one of the greatest feelings in the world, and though it's been quite a while, thrashy music with some serious belting of the lungs is so fucking satisfying! Any chance I could give your band a listen somewhere? I'd love to hear what you all are creating.

Not quite yet, but we've started recording our demo, which we'll put online for free (wouldnt be very screamo to ask money for it, right?)

Haha, good call. Well, when it's out let us know! I'll keep my eyes peeled for it.

As far as my old computer goes, it seems I've deleted iTunes at some point, however, I was able to root around some folders but I didn't find much in the way of early, 90's screamo besides a bunch of Orchid, lol. I'll probably go around YouTube on a hunt sometime tonight or tomorrow-ish and if I find some goodies I'll be sure to post them.

To everyone: As always, keep 'em coming! I'd love to hear more. :)
