Just went and saw Ott again, this time he played with his friends/band - The All Seeing I. It was really interesting, seeing all his music played with live instruments. The Queen of all everything was especially interesting to view. The vocalist was singing, and ott manipulated the filters on the korg ms20 over his voice, all in real time. It sounded really different. I prefer the CD version honestly, but it was really awesome to see live. His newer material off of Mir didn't translate that well into live instruments imho. Songs like Squirrel and biscuits just sounded flat, because obviously a bass guitar can't make the same noises as those synth bases, so the mix was kinda hollow sounding. The rest of the tracks were pretty good to okay. When I saw him with Tipper the vibe was much better. Admittedly I was very fucked on a heavy dose of MDA, my first time trying that, it's an analoge of MDMA with psychedelic properties, so that may be why I didn't enjoy myself as much. My body was too loaded to dance for a good while, heh. Phutureprimitive also played, and I wasn't really into it. He mostly played his newer bass/dubstep stuff which all sounded the same to me. His downtempo material I found very good, but his new stuff just sounds generic.
Ott was also walking about the venue, it was a pretty small place. I saw him sitting down at a table having dinner before the show and thought about approaching him to take a picture, but realized I'd probably be an annoying asshole disturbing him while he's trying to eat dinner with his friends before playing a show. The dude looked tired so I didn't bother him and just let him eat. I did however get a signed poster of Ott, so that will tide me over, haha.
Nice man! Yeah I definitely hear what you're saying about translating music to a live band. I think it's a cool idea but it doesn't always really work the same. Younger Brother kind of lost me on their last album in that way. Even Ott's last album wasn't a big part of my listening repertoire. A lot of psy that I even loved a few years ago is changing. I've noticed dubstep vibes sneaking into a lot of it and I guess it's cool if it's done properly but when a sound screams "dubstep" to me it's just a turn off really. I guess it's just not my style, I don't have any kind of actual justification for it and I'm sure plenty of people love it but I can't get enough of the old school vibe personally. It's cool that you got a signed poster man. I probably wouldn't have approached him eating dinner either though so I definitely understand your thinking there haha. I wouldn't even know what to say if I did approach him lol.
