Meh. It's nowhere near as psychedelic as the original The Messenger. You can see they tried to appeal to the older fans while still maintaining their new sound, and I give them respect for that. But fact of the matter is, it's just not as good. What's most interesting is it seems like their studio quality has gone down, which I don't understand. The production on IM albums used to be so immaculate, and yet this one is full of clumsy, muddied sounds, basses that are too bassy, midranges that collide with each other, and high details that are totally in the background and barely heard. The original had better production than this, and it was on of their earliest tracks, which is what's odd about it. The little psychedelic voices were almost completely taken out, and what you do hear of them actually sounds a lot more simple and less intense than the original.
I appreciate the effort Infected, but I just don't think you guys got it anymore

Whoa. This song is called the Messenger? I don't think I've ever had this track but I have one with the same opening piano riff labeled as "Shiva Space Technology" By "Shpongle - Infected Mushroom - Vibrasphere" which I'm sure it's not by all of them but I never knew what that song was, I got it off Limewire or something like 7 years ago but it's a killer tune. It's definitely a highly "shpongley" type tune also which had led me to believe perhaps it was a collab for a long time. Anyway somebody on Youtube said this:
"No, the song is "The Messenger" from the ALBUM "Shiva Space Technology" BY Shiva Shidapu, a collaboration project between Erez Eizen from Infected Mushroom and Jorg Kessler aka DJ Jörg. Some bozo on the internet re-wrote the tags and started distributing it as Shpongle and it got around with that name."
I don't know, I guess it IS Infected if they are rereleasing it. But FUCK, that song is SO GOOD. Like, REALLY good lol. One of the top best psy tunes of all time in my opinion. Really interesting to see another version but this version, while the opening was sick, it has too much electro vibe for me. The whole song was watered down and made accessible. I've noticed that about the new IM stuff, in my opinion it's too electro-ey and also from time to time very cliche dubsteppy stuff. Not to say I don't still respect their talent and their decision-making skills production wise but they lost me back around whatever was after IM the Supervisor, Viscous Delicious I think? I remember the first time hearing Becoming Insane on my iPod when I was younger and being really confused and disappointed. Oh well.
I still think they are incredible producers but perhaps they got a bit jaded by the industry. It's already happening to me. Maybe it's because I'm here in NYC but lately I've been really feeling the weight of the industry weighing heavy on the delicate flower we call "art." Art and industry always will clash if you ask me, there is no happy medium here. It's a constant awareness an artist must have and it's also a very personal thing but for me I cannot embrace an industry fixated on marketing techniques and profits, there is just no respect on either side, for the consumer OR the artist. I'm not exactly sure who they are releasing with lately, in anybody, but I found some stuff on them releasing on Resist Records with people like Fabio. Not to hate, Fabio probably makes decent tunes for his genre, I wouldn't know but I'm just saying, if you're looking for groundbreaking psy, I wouldn't look to Resist Records first.
That being said, Infected still does some of their psy stuff in their newer stuff but it's just not enough to keep me interested. But on a happy note, at least now I know who did that song and what it's called. It's a beast of a track.
