Listened to this one last night.

Was cool, Miles Davis with a big band, although I liked the parts that were more oriented on his playing than the full on mixture of them all playing at once. Was good times, nothing too special in my opinion but I don't understand jazz too well lol.

Miles and Gil big band is not really my cup of tea either, I haven't heard that particular album but i'll take every other Miles 50's album over Porgy and Bess or Sketches of Spain

I don't understand Jazz either, it dosen't really matter. All contributions welcome

Definitely agree with Sketches of Spain, one of my favorites he did.

Reading his autobiography now, and ideally I wanted to listen to all of his stuff chronologically as he talks about them but it is hard to find a lot of the shit he recorded so I'll just go with what I have/can find lol.

I'm also interested in what he has to say about free jazz, since that's a genre I really can't get into at all. He had a lot of complimentary things to say about Ornette Coleman so far but I want to see what he says about albums specifically, if he even does.

Sorry to spam lol, I'll follow this one up with one my favorite Mingus songs.

I listen to most Jazz but no so much free, I feel like it has more in common with avant-garde classical, industrial, noise, zeuhl than it does the Jazzmusic I enjoy.
Dolphy and such is fine but when it's Brötzmann style it dosen't really interest me that much

How do you feel about his 60's?

ESP through Nefertiti might be my favorit era by him

I like the 70's the best, I think, I really like On the Corner a lot and of course Bitches Brew is a monster. In a Silent Way was recorded in the 60's, though the tail end of it, but it seems like it sounds more like his 70's material. I love that fusion shit he made, seems like it shows his evolution from the bepop/big band stuff he recorded early on. In his book he says that On the Corner was an attempt to make his music more accessible to young black kids (the racist fuck), and I think it shows, it's more "fun" than his other stuff, but I gotta say I still think Kind of Blue is the shit.

I like his fusion stuff as well, to me fusion is for the most part a terrible genre but that's mainly I think because the Return to Forever style was way more influental than the Bitches Brew style, if everyone had copied Davis this thread would be full of fusion :P

Kind of Blue is probably my favorite aswell, I allways forgot to mention in it because i've heard it so many times that I never listen to it anymore, it's very good though obviously
