probably because Brian Eno was involved , who went on to produce U2 greatest albums

and that song - Life During Wartime is awesome too

I fucking hate U2 so much. I might have to give their "good" albums a fair shake and give them a listen soon, but I don't know if I can do it.

And is it because he produced it or is it because the instrumentals, pace, vocals, lyrics, humor even (see the end of "Cities"), etc. was all on point?

he produced their 4 good albums -

Joshua Tree
Unforgettable Fire
All that you Can't Leave Behind
No Line on the Horizon

Those albums are very different from the others

He's a really good producer.

I like him , lots do - some hate him too, so idk.

I know U2 can be so Rock//Pop-y sounding without his direction

with him - its much more spiritual i find.

Like Unforgettable Fire - some hate it but you might have to listen to it a few times.

I think its one of the 10 best albums of all time.
