Gonna get flamed for this but I don't care.

Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt is one of the most emotional performances I've ever heard. It is so genuine and sad I honestly have a hard time listening to it.

Billie Holiday's stuff is also incredibly sad, she knew how to tear your fucking heart out.

EDIT - Bob Dylan's Sara, Led Zeppelin's All My Love, and Queen's The Show Must Go On are other examples of songs fueled primarily by emotions.

I still prefer Cash's version over Nin one, tho Reznor did a great job composing it.

Both are great, but the amount that Cash poured into that song along with the impact that it meant for him (coming at the end of his life, etc.) push it over the top for me.

It's a pretty good song and very emotional.

Both version are awesome.

There was a funny tale about Trent Reznor making this song without even knowing that it was a Bowie's one.
