He is playing a bunch of Northwest Shows this September with Mount Eerie (The Microphones), including East of the Cascades.

04/09/13 Yakima, WA, Seasons Performance Hall
05/09/13 Portland, OR, Aladdin Theatre
06/09/13 Portland, OR, Aladdin Theatre
07/09/13 Seattle, WA, Neptune Theatre (last 4 gigs with Mount Eerie)

Eager to see him at the Neptune in Seattle. Fairly new venue, remodeled old movie theater in the University district.

Mount Eerie dude's from Anacortes and I always went there as a kid so his material really sticks with me. That would be a cool duo to see, it's always hard for me to plan trips out west ``

Yeah Phil Elverum, he is a really awesome musician. Living just north in Bellingham, I get to catch him quite a bit. Probably 4 times in the last year. He is regularly plays at a Record Store in Anacortes called The Business (Formerly started by Brett Lunsford from Beat Happening and D+). He played a great set at The Heartland in Seattle too, when it opened, great DIY venue on Roosevelt in Seattle near Cafe Racer (known for the OBAMA - the Official Bad Art Museum of Art). Phil is a cool dude, talked with him a couple times. July is the Anacortes Unknown Festival, held in his studios which is an old Croatian church in Anacortes, lots of K Records/Know-Yr-Own, basically Olympia/Portland/Seattle/Anacortes area musicians.

By the way, your sig reminds me of the original single cover for the previously mentioned Will Oldham track Horses, its blue though

Happy to hear that he's deeply rooted in that area. I never really gave The Microphones the time of day but when I heard Mount Eerie it instantly clicked; and later I learned of his Anacortes heritage and it all made sense. I really miss Washington.

Yeah the Anacortes area produces a lot of great musicians. Check out the album Dandelion Seeds by D+, awesome band with Phil (Mount Eerie), Karl Blau, and Brett Lunsford (Beat Happening).

The name Mount Eerie is interesting in and of itself, it is a large hill in Anacortes which legend has it is hollow. Been up there once and certain areas of the top produced a strange bellowing sound from jumping around, probably just immense tree root systems, but cool nonetheless.
