interestingly enough brutal goregrindingly dirty riffs over blastbeats calm me down and help me deal with anxiety in a positive way. go figure.

I love melodies and beautiful music but I usually prefer Metal with controlled cacophony, pure blissful brutality etc., if melodies I'd prefer them to be subtle in various interesting ways.

its not what the music seems to be but what you see in it. to one it sounds like noise, to the other like an angel choir. you should never judge from what YOU hear or what the music may sound like to YOU.

anaal nathrakhs "L.E.T.H.A.L Diabolic" has made me cry on several listens from sheer beauty and joyful shivers down my spine.

Depends on how you feel, but metal can be ''beautiful'' and still deliver the brutal punch it needs to be good.

Listen to Isis or Tool, both really good band example of this.

Tool is avante guard, don't get me wrong I've been a fan for 10+ years easily. Respectively Undertow was the most metal album in my opinion. 10,000 days also was interesting, Danny Carry admits to some Meshuggah influence :O. Isis is atmospheric, melodic death metal. If you guys wanna try something with a beautiful melody, but is catchy and brutal give Fallujah a listen to. This is one of my favorite songs:
