I think referring to them as "pretentious hipsters" is a little forced, and a tad bit pretentious in itself. A lot of the minds of the 50s and 60s were genuinely intelligent; not raised on iPhones and Google and Kerouac novels.
How is it forced, exactly? Also, when did I make the implication that hipsters can't be intelligent?Quote (Svartermetalisk @ Jan 10 2012 03:49pm)
They are acclaimed because they made music about drugs and sex while the beatles were singing about rainbows and strawberry fields.
Brian Eno once said "The original VU album only sold 10.000 copies but everyone of thoose 10.000 people formed a band"
They were a huge influence on the Punk, garage and alternative rock scene.

Because the Beatles never made songs about drugs, sex and other subjects besides "rainbows and strawberry fields"?
As for the second part of this post I specifically asked you guys not to use the "influence card", which you have here.
Influence does not equal enjoyable and/or quality music and the entire argument seems like it is, as I've said, rooted more in the technicality and history of music production itself, not in artistic merit.Quote (Svartermetalisk @ Jan 10 2012 07:19pm)
Also White Light / White Heat is probably their hardest to listen to album.
You'll probably like VU & Nico + S/T more.
Loaded is not even a real VU album so I won't even comment on that.
Like I said, I enjoyed Loaded, their self-titled is there best and when I listened to their debut a while ago I didn't particularly care for it, although I will be giving it another full listen soon (probably this weekend).Quote (ChowYunFat @ Jan 10 2012 09:31pm)
Ha. They were pre-hipster.
Now that I think about it... I wonder what Warhol / Basquiat / VU would think about hipsters today?...
Proto-hipster, lol.This post was edited by Kamahl16 on Jan 10 2012 10:58pm
