I may be a massive mastodon fan, but I'm sure Avenge Sevenfold created more of a mainstream success.

yeah thats what im saying. my buddy thinks a7x is better because they're more successful as a band due to a larger fan base/greater media attention (i dont think theres a big difference here anyway), but i was telling him how mastodon is much more talented than a7x, they write much more intricate and original music, and that a lot more people enjoy mastodon than he might think. i also pointed out that the generic metalcore band a7x attracts faggot posers and youth who either just started listening to metal-like bands, or who dont actually know anything about musical theory, ergo they cannot recognize complexity when they hear it.

he doesnt believe me and continues to claim that if anything, mastodon is a shittier version of a7x.



oh no lol, i was looking for valid arguments from you folk, because i was having quite a bit of trouble in voicing my thoughts while arguing with my friend about which band is better. i like mastodon, dont like a7x (although i did when i first started listening to metal). i would agree that a7x is likely more successful from a business standpoint, but then i argued that music shouldnt be about business, its art.

So if the bands you loved suddenly got very mainstream they'd be bad? #1 logic.

For the record I like neither bands. Not defending a7x, at all.

Case in point... the band Jungle Rot, a fucking awesome Death Metal band.. been aorund since the early 90's
And no one has ever heard of them... the mainstream dosent always find the good bands, this is why i dont go to the mainstream for my music.
