Hello! I just saw the premier of the last Hobbit movie. It was alright. Some huge differenses from the book but I am not complaining :)

Anyways.. I was going to ask if anyone else noticed that when Thorin and his company ran out of the mountain to help their fellow dwarfs, he had a shield in his left hand when the camera was pointing straight to his face but when they changed the angle to the side there was no shield. Did anyone else notice this?

I could be wrong but I am almost sure.

It was bogging me a bit so I had to ask if anyone else can confirm

Also. How did you like the movie? :)

This might be a stupid question but I don't see how there are five armies. I only counted four.

Humans
Orcs
Elves
Dwarves

That's 4

In the book, it is as follows.

“So began a battle that none had expected; and it was called the Battle of Five Armies, and it was very terrible. Upon one side were the Goblins(orcs) and the Wild Wolves(wargs), and upon the other were Elves and Men and Dwarves. This is how it fell out."

Those are the original 5 armies. The movies reduced the wargs to mindless riding instruments, like horses. While in the books they were an independent sentient race, complete with their own language.

In the movie I guess they're considering the eagles as the 5th army because they reduced the wargs to what they were.

Was wondering about that as well. My guess is, since the movie is called "The battle of the five armies" (not the five races, or whatever), they just counted one army of elves, one of dwarves, one of men and two armies of orcs.

i didnt notice it, but goofs like that are pretty common in movies, especially if shooting a scene happens over more than one day.

what bothered me more is that 10 more dwarves run out and suddenly the tide of the battle turns. i get that the exhausted dwarves rallied to the king and renewed their efforts, but that only goes so far... in the book, wasnt it a second army of dwarves that turned the battle or something?

is the movie its the second army of orcs
they make a big deal about them showing up and then the dwarfs go to intercept the scouts around all that ice

but before the main army arrives the eagles turn up and overshadow the whole thing, presumably wiping them out

That's your concern? No mention of how 10 dwarves put up that massive fucking wall in the main gateway of the mountain... I mean, dwarves were single-handedly throwing around 10 ton boulders and pulling them up by ropes with the strength of a few.

The movie doesnt have a scratch on LotR. They completely raped the hobbit, attempting to make it a movie for all ages, in an attempt to make more money.

I mean, no blood shed at all? Bad guys dropping like flies merely from 1 hit to their armor plates? Geez

side note: 1 LotR book was 1 Lotr movie.
3 Hobbit books stacked ontop of each other were equal to 1 Lotr Book, and got 3 separate movies... I think that says enough.
