Find a place that sells projectors and ask to try them out. Just bring a HD DVD Player and boom buy the one you think has the best picture

They're not cheap (cheapest one they have is $5000), but Runco makes the best projectors on the market.

If you go with a projector, I HIGHLY recommend running an HDMI balun from your source (whether it be a Blu-ray player, a receiver, or whatever) to the projector. DO NOT run a long-assed HDMI cable. SO many problems with HDCP handshake over long HDMI runs. For something fitting your budget, I'd recommend going with a JVC DLAX35B projector and an Atlona HD-RX and HD-TX HDMI extender kit. This will use a single CAT5e/6 Ethernet run to link your source and the projo.
