LED, the # of Hz, and other qualities such as the processor for the Smart features add to the cost. You can get a cheap LCD for 500, or a top of the line LED TV with all of the bells and whistles for a lot more.
The first Samsung LED I had got these screen bubbles, but it was a brand new technology back then. My more recent Samsung is fine. Both had good pictures.
There's actually a 60" LG 240 Hz LED TV for $1700 that I think looked like a great deal and it got great reviews. Saw it on Best Buy, maybe check that out.
