Movie is actually based off a graphic novel by Frank Miller. The same guy that wrote the Sin City comic books. It was originally in comic book forum but then they released it as a graphic novel, you can get it all in one book its pretty bad ass.

a book and an old movie was about this... was called 300 spartans... from like the 60s lol

The movie is actually based off of the battle of Thermopylae which actually occurred... Possibly the greatest battle ever. I read about it 2 years ago and thought, "holy shit there needs to be a movie about this."
