Hi - I'm not really a big anime fan and dont know much about subgenres and so forth.

However - I really liked the animatrix and the ghost in the shell movies.

Can anyone recommend some anime movies that are similar to those in genre? (near future, semi realistic animation, sci-fi, thriller, action, violence, semi philosophical)

I'm just gonna tell you to watch buso renkin and gurren lagann. Both are action but gurren lagann has robots and drills and nobody dislikes both robots and drills.
