Crate amps are mediocre. Middle of the road amp.
Tone is kinda dry and flavorless..Not really smooth like a nice Marshall or Mesa Boogie.
The halfstacks sound is really linear and doesn't really sound great jamming.
However if your just chilling at home, Crate is a good company to start with. Had mine for a while now..its breaking, but thats probably my fault. It was a good amp while I had it, and it did its job well, but don't expect to get face melting tone out of it ( Not that you'll need it playing the bands you listed anyway

)
I agree, I bought a used crate gt-1200H for 250$
Its loud as fuck, the distortion is really not bad for just plug-n-play and it seems fairly durable.
Plus any 4x12 cab looks badass sitting in your jam area. I recently went to guitar center to get some new cables and there was a B-52 AT-100 on sale so I played it for a couple minutes and I hafta say it sounded pretty badass for the price and the cab came with Eminence Texas Heat speakers loaded inside. The only problem is it was like 900$ for the cab+head.
As far as tone/price ratio I would say buy a used crate and a line 6 pod or your favorite modeling unit/pedal and blast that fucker through the crates clean channel until you save up enough to buy a really killer tube amp.
P.S. you know that crate is an acronym for Cant Really Afford The Equipment... lol
