stupid shit or not, there are a large number of things that will occur on that day or around it. If the world doesnt 'end' it still might have some interesting side effects, for example, the gravitational pull will be the strongest ever recorded.
Not going to list them and/or debate it. I just think the actual scientific events that will happen are pretty cool.

Thats fuckin scary man.. They say a planet x is going to hit the earth. I still believe in this :S many scientists too. But the nasa said this was impossible!! Who are you going to believe. I think ill spend my education funds to by a lamborghini instead.. haha XD
