How long has Starcraft 2 been in the works? How many people said that would never happen before it was officially announced?
The Diablo franchise is enormous, and the fan base is there to power yet another monster MMO for Blizzard.
From what I've heard, they had to move the production team because the product they were creating was total garbage, so Diablo III has been undergoing massive surgery to make it fun to play. If any of the sources I've read are trustworthy it will be a MMORPG that's faction based, Heaven Vs. Hell, which will be able to continue the Diablo story line, without need for the Prime Evils.
Will it be pay to play? Almost guaranteed. Why are MMORPG's pay to play? Because they are constantly evolving, which means constant work, which means constant need for funds. If this concept is too foreign for you, go back to solitaire.
I lol'd @ everyone who said "The staff that was gonna make it quit!" you're fucking retarded. Think Blizzard can't afford new able bodied programmers and designers? They make 15$ per month x 10,500,000. That's off of WoW subscriptions alone, and doesn't include payed transfers, merchandise, game copy sales, and income from other titles. . If they want to release a new title, they will do so.
