Todays "Black" Metal are mainly guys which think "Oh yeah, I can scream like hell and I raped some girls, I'm evil, yeah" without any decent skill on music ... Gorgoroth, Nagaroth etc..
One exception is the german Band "Endstille", which plays really decent black metal (including nice lyrics), but, oh no, they didn't rape any girls, so no they can't be a black metal band t.t

Metal: System of a Down, Metallica (well call these 2 mainstream, but they belong to the most skilled bands around), Fallen Utopia, Rammstein, Böhse Onkelz, Eisregen (since I'm from Austria, I have no probs with the german lyrics)
Rock/Poser Metal: Nirvana, G'n'R (again 2 mainstream, but they are just decent musicans, or were in some cases..), Dreamtheater (awesome skilled musicans), Marillion, Spocks Beard, Liquido
Folk: In Extremo, Schandmaul (pity, this genre is mainly german, never seen any non-german folk-rock band)
Jazz/Anti-Folk: G.Love, Adam Green, Papa jo Jones (defently the best (jazz) drummer this world have ever seen), Cop shoot Cop
Punk/Punk-Rock/Ska: Die Toten Hosen (again german, but awesome), Goldfinger, and some times even Millencollin ...

Endstille...isn`t it some kind of NSBM?I know the name but I forgot what it`s like, pretty sure about the style though.

I find it amusing how you like underground NSBM bands and posers like SoaD. And hell, how are they "the most skilled"? Metallica can be easily played after 1 year of intensive guitar, SoaD is just pathetic.

Endstille is NSBM? Hell no ... in fact they are one of the few non NSBM bands in germany ...
Endstille try NOT to be like the clichee of a black metal band nowadays (these bad bad boys ..) and thats the reason why the don't get accept as black metal...
Why i see them as skilled? Watch the drummer playing .. hellhammer couln't be faster
and y metallica isn't hard to play anyways, but i just listed some skilled bands (and a skilled band is not only based on guitar) and metallica (same as SoaD) got a really gr8 constallation of vocals, guitar and drums.
Btw try to play SoaD if they are that "unskilled", if u like them or not is subjectiv, but they are defently one of the most skilled band today (imho)
