Not Venom, but the symbiote that makes up Venom. You see, Spider-man had the symbiote first, but then he got rid of it and it joined forced with Eddie Brock, creating Venom.

As for Carnage, Carnage is the son of Venom, in many ways. Carnage's original human personality, I'm not sure of that, but how it was born I am: The symbiote of Venom was a female one. It helped Eddie escape from the jail. BUt it was pregnant and it's child got attached to this psychopathic criminal, creating Carnage. Carnage is supposedly more powerful than Venom and Spidey combined.

He is immortal of course. However, that's only because he is the main character in the series. If the main character was, JJJ, Spidey would have been dead for a good while.
