Now? If you read the actual story about it.. the tech of it has been around for many years. You can mimic what the projection does to what ever form you want too.

All depends on the market bro. Why make electric cars when gasoline ones still sell better, etc. I mean even today, technically not worth mass producing electric cars as their market is still quite small compared to regular gas guzzlers.
