You don't HAVE to do the BAM quests... just skip them. They aren't needed to hit max level.

They do, but if you aren't leveling with other people, it isn't worth the time and effort to do them... You can do 1-60 easily and quickly without them lol. I've leveled 4 characters to 60 and never did all the BAM quests for each one. I did some on some characters when it was easy to do because I was leveling with a group of people at the time, others I just skipped completely if I was solo or duo'ing without healer.

What do you do once you finished all the quests of an area and is still too low level to access the next one?
It seems like I hit a wall at lvl 49 and its qutie annoying D:

this. complete as many as possible in the area your at instead of running back and forth... bang a few out for the faster xp

Run instance or grind repeatables. Always make sure you do the story quests while you are doing regular quests if possible.

This is pretty much the grind until 60 all you can do.

the only time you don't have quest is around lvl 55.

It depends what class you are. Support classes//lancers level faster in groups, doing repeatable instance quests. The other DPS level fastest doing repeatable trashmob quests. There is a list of all the quests floating somewhere in the interwebz. Find out which repeatables are open at what level, and how much experience they give you. Do ten stacks (If the quest asks for 20 kills, you can kill 200) then turn it in all at once and repeat. For each new area, try rushing the story quest, then finishing the dungeon. As each story objective gives you alot of gear//experience, so that grinding repeatables becomes much easier.
