I had way more fun in 2142, and I thought it was harder. Discuss.

I had a lot of fun in bf2 and 2142 AND bf3.

Most people that played the older BF games became used to a stalemate war in a sense. Snipers could snipe on a hill top the entire game in bf2>Dragon Valley for instance and never be seen. Flags where much further apart and the fog of war was only so far, if you played legit, that the actual battlefield was only 500m in all direction rather than 2k+ in bf3. In a sense ALL of the map was used in the older BF's as BF3 has everyone corralled in a similar place to throw them right into combat. I believe it has become VERY casual because of this: Flag placement, no fog of war, map size/layout. Not that I am against playing casual, but I can see the differences, some minute and some large. BF2142 sounds like it was the first one that you played, mine was BF2 and I will always enjoy that game thoroughly over any of the other ones.

Also to many guns, bf2 was very basic with guns, you had your good ones and bad ones that everyone used and did not use.

I'm finding that bf3 is absurdly gear dependent. You can be in a situation where you should have the other guy but because his gear is better he winds up wining. In 2142, all the gear was balanced and viable.

Very true. Even in BF2 most handguns where, in some cases, short range sniper riffles that could be fired at very high rates of speed while staying on target. It wasn't just one hand gun that did this either, it was most to all of them with maybe an exception somewhere in between. People rush me in BF3 all the time and I find myself killing them off with a sniper riffle, all of them. BF2 it was lucky if you got 1 guy rushing you and maybe getting the other guy with your side arm.

What they did with AA is also disappointing to me in BF3. Everyone having an IGLA, mobile AA in a sense, is very annoying. I was much more fond of stationary AA and 1 mobile AA unit(s) on the map at any given time. It gave jet and helicopter pilots a sense of where the "hot zone" was rather than the entire map possibly being a "hot zone." Recall flying in BF2 and always having my gunner shoot a TV missile to spot out the damn mobile AA, he was our only and main concern until he was dead.

People who find Battlefield 3 "Too Casual" never seek out gaming with actual team based players. I'm not talking about, "Hey guys lets get some people and play tonight!". I'm talking about people who make it their business to destroy you on the battlefield.

This game can be extremely competitive and even more so than other games; you just have to look for it. It's like when you simply get a squad of players together and you steamroll a server for 10 games then suddenly get your ass stomped. You initially just blame it on how bad "The Randoms" on your team where, but never consider maybe there was another squad on the other team that you where no match for.

Every game is casual until you find the people that know nothing of the word.

And besides every game that comes out now markets towards the biggest crowd.
