Thinking about getting back into it after quitting just as season 1 released. I haven't played the latest expansion at all. Wondering if it's worth my time.

How's the end game? I remember it being the tree quests, world bosses, and hell tides. That wasn't horrible but I felt like itemization was so bad and mythics (Uniques?) were so abyssmally rare that there was really no point in farming loot unless you hit something extremely rare and powerful. Also leveling became brutally hard and there was no way to rush. You had to replay the game over and over for each new character.

How's PvP? I remember barbs and rogues completely dominating to such an extent it was pointless to play anything else in PvP. Unfortunately those are the most boring characters in my opinion but PvP is the most exciting feature.

Have itemization and item drops gotten better? I couldn't really state ay specific examples on my poor experience with it. I guess what I desire is a play experience where its easy enough to get to the start of end game but there is plenty of opportunities to farm and boost your own power. Similar to D2 and D3.

How are world bosses? Does it get to a point where you feel like it's just a waste of time to participate?

The most informed opinion is this:

Diablo 4 is like a delicious icecream bucket without a scoop. You have to eat it with your hands and mouth.

So here are my thoughts so far.

I've skipped quite a few seasons but always return in hope that there has been improvement. Season 12 has been fun, but is just a short interim before the expansion launches. Once Lord of Hatred launches things seem to be on the upswing yet again, think Diablo 3 Reaper of Souls. Unless Blizzard completely drops the ball the game should improve with the next expansion quite a lot. Endgame will be able to be more customized to what you enjoy grinding/running. Item optimization should continue to improve as well, power will be shifted to items versus the skill trees as passives are being removed from the trees completely. As far as optimization goes it's been substantially improved from the last time you played. There are no longer multiple damage buckets to juggle and gear rolls are much more rewarding (minus a few useless affixes). Masterworking and tempering systems have been improved. You can now target temper gear versus lottery results and bricking your item. Vessel of Hatred added rune crafting for mythic target farming, granted runes can still be a pita to acquire (outside of JSP) but having a system where you can just craft your mythic gear for 18 specific runes and some gold makes the chase not so bad.

I won't speak on PVP since I have very little desire or interaction with that system.

World bosses are still a fun shake up to the every day grind. Bosses are no longer one shot by any class, depending on classes involved they may still melt fairly quickly but you don't see them spawning and dieing immedietly as in the past.

Overall I'm glad I've checked in with the game from time to time, and am looking forward to Lord of Hatred. If you do return I hope you enjoy it <3

I really appreciate your thoughtful response. I just pre-purchased the next expansion. I've never played the first expansion so I think I'll ease myself back in by playing the next partbof the campaign.

Of course, enjoy the campaign the cinematics are Blizzard quality as usual and be thankful you won't have to be triggered by the campaign state with the next expansion right around the corner. The way the ended VoH upset a lot of people as it was fairly abrupt lol.

1-2 weeks into any league you are DONE. There is nothing left for you to do. You won't have a game to play for the remaining 3 months of the league.

Unfortunate. Are you following what's expected of the new expansion? Any hope for that?

It sounds like the game currently is still lacking but the next expnsion is expected to make major changes that'll help that. What are your thoughts in that regard?

You have 9 items you have to get and upgrade. Once you do that you have nothing left to do.

In POE 2 you need to get 35 items and upgrade them but the true purpose for doing that is to generate more currency and run your own investment portfolio. That's what you do all league is try to make currency.

What really hurts Diablo 4 is really the other games. It has competition.

At start there was long leveling process (to some extent ofc), at least it was something. Now it is just arcade grind.

As for items, you dont really need to farm bosses now, you can get purple items as guaranteed drops wih mythic prunkster or with high chance in undercity. This clearly deflate value of purples.
And I think biggest problem of d4 is this - all non purple items are complete joke when compared to, and are extremely easy to get. So basically solid part of the game becomes worthless.
