My cousins and I all play together and in season past we just combine our boss mats and run them together. But my one cousin says he thinks we can’t do that anymore because of a loot chest.

Can anyone elaborate please? Is he correct or is it how it has been in the past

After you kill a boss, his chest appears. You need to use boss mats to open the chest. Every player has to open with his own mats his own chest. However, if more people kill a boss together, the boss drops more items.

No.
Just for loot.

Bosses are now free to summon
Drops are locked behind a chest that spawns after a boss is killed. Players will need their own set of mats to receive loot
+1 player in party =1 more gear drop
