So, I know D4 bashing is very popular all over the world and especially in here and to be honest, it deserves almost all of it.

It was and still is inexcusable that a company as powerful and rich as Blizzard couldnt come up with a better game after all those years.
The restrictive systems, boring and simplified gameplay loops, the hollow char progression systems, monetization from hell and also the horrific itemization did not make a great impression.

It wasnt the worst game on the planet, but it wasnt good either and that is why people went nuts over D4. To this day people call it the worst game ever made, they hate on it non-stop and will probably never stop mocking it, I did so myself.

Not anymore since Season 4. It is still not the holy grail of gaming, but Season 4 made it a solid experience. The pure gameplay is good now, the new monster density creates fun, going through helltide directly at level 1 is probably the best early game exlerience the genre has to offer. Itemization got also a lot better, although it is still not what I would love to see.

Overall the game has finally, after almost a year, surpassed the 12 year old (and not very good) D3 with this season and keeps on getting better. I am now at peace with it and can move on from trashtalking D4. Its an okay game now and it will likely only get better from now.

Dont get me wrong, the core systems are still far from being anywhere near D2 or PoE, but D4 has developed other strengths. It is piss easy and its a lot of fun to casually try to finish a build, get to high Pit levels, get as much ga as possible and so on.
Its just a fub game now. Not more but also not less. Thats it.

Didn’t read anything else than topic title: imo it’s better now than 3 previous seasons and actually first time i enjoy play this game. Game is made easy enough to keep me intrested to hit that lvl 100 and getting items to play endgame is also easy enough. Im 34 years old so im not intrested any hard wet ass grinding tears on my eyes

Previously i had only hit ~50-55 lvl and stoped playing at t3 past 3 seasons.

i gave it another try after i heard about trading changes. i'm a lvl 99 dust devil barb plowing through helltides and nm dungeons!

my buddy bought some mats for us to farm bosses which was cool. he ran like 300 lord zir runs and couldn't get the winterglass ammy, so he just bought 1 for 10m igg. yet another reason why i love trading. i also found a BIS unique for his build and gave it to him, that felt good.

definitely a step in the right direction.

just wanted to add: using Charge with an explosion legendary aspect on 10+ mobs might be one of the most satisfying things i've encountered in an arpg outside of d2's lightning fury

Oh I absolutely agree with you as well.

Cool to see a fellow basher coming to peace with the game. Yes, gameplay is actually a lot of fun and if the game was just a little deeper it could still become a very good game for total and also enthusiastic casuals.
Right now, it is still very enjoyable and I personally havent enjoyed a Thorns build more than this one - ever

haha. i don't know how i am playing it, but i agree with you as well. something changed. i'll be off the hate bandwagon for a bit and let the devs cook

Agreed, but one thing that still really bugs me tho:

I HATE the smart loot. I would love to find for example a gg fractured winter glass with my barb and trade it away or something like that. I love to collect all the items without having to make 5 different characters and level them all up.
Also, it feels artificial to get all this loot especially for my character. It just feels so constructed.

Thats probably my BIGGEST problem with the game right now. I feel like now that we have trading, Blizzard should remove this asap!

I might actually revisit d4 this weekend. Been reading so much good things about it. Honestly I am surprised and I never thought I would be thinking about playing again EVER after season 1 being a complete fuck up. So yeah I’ve got limited time this weekend and next week, what’s an easy build to breeze through with, anyone?

yeah i wouldn't want to level up all those either!

i personally don't like the monster scaling as it always feels like i'm not feeling the effects of a great item upgrade. to combat this, i like to go to lord zir every now and then or maybe the same nm dungeon tier/pit level to see the difference. which feels good, but out in the open map = i don't like.

however, can't stop doing helltides right now with profane mindcage (+10 to their level). luckily d4 has some crazy good combat on the dust devil barb, it's got me hooked, lol

edit: another issue is their ui hiccups and lags when opening inventory/clicking on blacksmith or whatever. sometimes the inventory loads up just fine and no lag. transitions smoothly. other times, it'll freeze for a good 900ms. i'm on a SSD too, not sure if anyone else experiences that, but holy hell it's annoying
