At level 44 and set up to do something I believe is useful; it is incredibly difficult to try and tell what it is doing or whether it is actually doing anything at all.

I don't notice anything graphically, and if I am honest I end up paying no attention to it's existence. I try to notice it's effects but it is nigh on impossible to tell what it is doing in a combat situation.

Not quite, the pet is independent but depending on what you set it up with it can provide stat/effect buffs. But the usage is kind of random or loop/time based. To be fair, just did Capstone and it was zapping a few strays by itself but that was about it.

There are legendary stones which may have more of an effect later I guess?

Wait, but there is that list of effects from patch notes - multishot, pierce attacks, etc, all these doesn't apply to your character skills?

Nope, they apply to the pet skill. There are a few stones that provide minor buffs to the char and there is a shako stone that gives +4 skills for 2 seconds.

Hmm that's a big fail, I thought they finally improved skill system.

So after a bit of grinding .....

If you max out Adrenaline, and synergise it with maxed out Tactical and Duration; you get +20% damage.
