Many are complaining that D4 game design is too primitive, but apparently 95% of the players are just blindly following the guides from the first link of the search engine made by some "known" streamer and overpaying for the items which have exactly the same stats which are shown in the build guide even if there are many other options which are same as good or even better. :bonk:
So the conclusion is D4 game design is too smart for a casual player to comprehend.

pretty true. when you have an insane gaming culture nowadays of just following sheep and crazy idolization of streamers and their builds, this is what happens :(

gamers used to spend hours reading strategy books, guides, etc and then craft up something cool. now it's just alt-tab to our fav guide and copy and paste

It took longer because back then, people who wrote guides didn’t make a living sitting at home eating cheetos and playing video games for their equally unproductive audience, it was very much a hobby/autistic addiction (minority of player-base) back then.

Now there is an entire streamer ecosystem, why waste time theory crafting about something if there is autistic clown doing that for you non-stop all day long.

Maybe because you can still use your own few braincells to figure out this "rocket science"? I mean if you would compare it to PoE for example, it's like first grader's level maths to PhD.

It's funny how everyone will pay 20x the amount for the exact low rolled affixes from some build guide when there are a few other affixes which will perform the same and you can buy a better rolled one a lot cheaper.

Gaming culture reflects the “instant gratification” shift in society. A large group of people (myself included at times) fall into a trap of looking at the end goal and rushing there.

In d4 and other games that doesn’t work for two reasons.

1. Often the end goal is unfinished. Companies have learned they can stop doing beta testing and instead sell early access to players, who will beta the game for you.

2. The journey to the end is the game itself.

I think that for me, at least, a LOT has changed in terms of the amount of time and effort i'm willing to dedicate to something I deem 'entertainment'. It's not specifically related to D4, but virtually anything that I intend to invest time and/or money into that falls under that category. I remember having every d2 and lod legendary item memorized, as well as skill point applications for various classes, viable pvp stats, all of that.

I got older, my priorities shifted, and the desire or drive to spend countless hours rummaging through piles of information looking for that minor improvement or tweak to really make an actual difference is gone.

The days of setting an alarm for every 2 hours so I could login to SWG and kill the GDK at Kimogila Town for a shot at some scales to make R.I.S. armor are gone. I'm jaded, largely due to the fact that I spent countless hours in my teens and twenties chasing a carrot, only to be rewarded by the game being shut down a few short months after reaching my goals... it's even worse now, especially in the mobile gaming industry, but it is what it is.

You can call me lazy, entitled, or whatever you want to, but I'm tired of investing so much time and effort into building something that is completely worthless and meaningless in the long run. Then again, we're all on a site that's geared to cutting corners and instant gratification, so... yeah.

Possibly. But then agaian, a netflix with buttons is too complicated for most players these days.

iuno, i feel like it's more to do with instant gratification. players don't want to put in the work, they want to alt-tab and follow someone else's build not experience the game or spend time ironing out kinks themselves

but yeah, you are correct why would they spend all that time to have a great build when someone else put in the work..
