Yes I do. Never said I didnt play it. What do you think where my opinion comes from? The strongest opinions come from people who actually care for the game, believe it or not.
People underestimate the power of nostalgia. Diablo is the series of games dearest of all games to me, because Diablo was the first PC game I ever played and ever bought from my own money.
I love Diablo. More than any other game series and I desperately want it to be good. I guess I will play a bit of D4 every season and probably after every major patch - because I have to in a way, I need to know what changed and if anything changed for the better.
But at the same time my opinion about the game is still genuine. I hate it. I hate what they made out what D1 and D2 gave us. They shit on their own foundation and desteoyed almost everything true fans used to love about those games.
There is almost no hope, but I cant let it go for good. Its a cruel game they play for sure.
This post describes my view too, and is well written. Same for me in that it was my first game. I want it to be good. I want it to be the vanilla WoW of this decade. And I think the developers do too.
But the marketing, profit driven corporate husk of what was once a great company’s metrics are $$$. And in a way - it makes sense.
Blizzard has a PR division that calculates sentiment analysis on social media using simple AI tools. Your core metrics involve business success (new sales and cosmetics, expansions) and customer satisfaction. People actually reaching the end game and realizing it’s not there are a small % of your audience.
So this performance and behavior is just a reflection of today’s “move fast, make money, break things, and ask for apologies” attitude prevalent in many industries.
My hope is that the developers are able to get over some key humps like they did in s1. We need new classes, in itemization, rehaul, and new content. And what most likely, this will be behind an expansion where we will start this process all over again.
