So I played up to 25 on launch... night, and just wanted to grind out my HC D2R char a bit more than whatever D4 was trying to learns me. I'm willing to give it another chance, but like.. can someone help me? What the fuck is a pact and do I need to actually pay attention to them or can I ignore it like I did the last seasonal crap?

I got you bro.. here’s my understanding to start you off

There’s 20 or so vampiric powers available across all classes. You can slot 5 of them in, and the window is in your inventory interface. To activate the powers you have slotted, your gear needs a number of 3 different (edit I think these are the pacts, but the name here, someone help me) stats that you can apply to the gear using a dropped consumable.

They made a blood tide thing that goes zone to zone constantly and you can farm the blood currency to unlock your vampiric powers and level them up there. Same with keys to open new chests that drop a lot of Rares, and use some other drop to summon elites.

There’s a question line that has you go from place to place and do some dungeons.

pacts are a pre-requisite which needs to put onto your gear to activate the vampiric powers you've decided to use. mats will drop to add or remove pacts on your gear. cleansing acid or wtv its called.
its kind of like the 3 colors we needed on our jewelry sockets when using malignant hearts, but you can edit and swap them around yourself, if that makes any sense.
