because people are snowflakes.
But what's funny to me is people complain about the lack of endgame after hitting 100, but praise D2 (i loved D2 don't get me wrong) where endgame was spending weeks, 7hours a day, doing baalruns...??? ubers were easy af, the only thing we did was duel, with rules we chose among ourselves.
because thats the only thing we needed

but i mean think about it, why do people play video games? what was it that made it fun? i mean sure you could play a bit in order to satisfy certain needs like testing yourself playing a shooter or creativity playing an rpg. but the moment gaming exploded was the moment player interaction was added. fair competition is fun, we are hardwired to like it as it brings status. cooperation is also fun, everyone likes spending time with friends. gaming had both

basically a good game should give only good player interaction through cooperation and/or competition and everything else is secondary. d2 gave both, all while botting was rampant so we could focus on the fun aspect alone and no one actually did his own baalruns unless really bored
this is why new games suck. competition isnt fair ("skill based matchmaking" its called now), and even worse, it limits you. speech is also limited. everything is limited. so the fun is also limited! this is "solved" by adding artificial competition which actually only has the purpose of wasting your time as much as possible so you would spend as much as possible. you are tasked with chores you need to do (usually called "challenges" or "achievements"), which makes people focus on those, which in turn limits cooperation as well because you simply have to hurry to consoom before something new is implemented, and if at least one person is in it for fun, cooperation slows the entire team down

also if you dont manage to do your chores in time, you will miss an important mtx or something else that triggers sunken cost. i could give an example with poe that went through all of these phases but the post is too long anyway and no one will read it
so tldr: player interaction brings fun and d2 had it

but i know im right
