I'm making a barb and this probably goes for any char. I'm still new to d4 also

I find some weapons with high damage per second but when I equip it my attack power goes down.

To make my barb better should I worry more about weapon damage or attack power is my question I guess

Everything is based off your weapon damage.. That is most important. You will want the best affixes too to multiply that damage even more

i think the weapon damage is the base damage all the other numbers build off. your main stat makes a big impact in your attack power # and i wasnt paying attention but i think attack speed messes with the number too.
so you could have a lower weapon damage with a decent +stat on it show as more attack power than a higher weapon damage without the main stat.
all the crit/core/vuln/dmg stuff doesnt show in the attack power even tho your actual output would be higher
