They're saying that generally "the developers don't play ARPGs". The reason I took notice is because I've mentioned the same thing a while ago, which is why it stood out.

It would explain why the game feels directionless and poorly designed. There's plenty more to go over from the developer campfire discussion, but people are really starting to get the feeling that ARPGs are not quite their dev design specialty.

yeah if the developer and gamer gap isn't bridged, this is what happens sadly. there's a reason why chris wilson still plays poe, even though he plays like projectPT and slow af, but at least he plays his own game instead of a corporate drone spewing internal talking points to feed the playerbase an illusion of comfort

It's kind of like trying to commission people to make or restore art that they don't even like or have experience in. The Jesus Fresco comes to mind.

There's absolutely zero chance they play or test or stuff like the helltide 'bug' would have absolutely gotten noticed, immediately.

This isn't even mentioning multiple aspects not working and all the other various bugs. All of this stuff would have been found immediately upon first inspection.

They absolutely did not run one single helltide before they released that patch

I miss the days when creators were actually passionate about their creations. Some games are treated as a form of art while others are treated like just a method of extracting money. Feels like the indie scene is doing a much better job of making games that are objectively fun, rather than feeling like work or a battle pass treadmill.

For me the last game that felt like art was probably Elden Ring. You could tell it was the culmination of decades of work built upon experience, wild imagination, and iterations of combat systems that were refined into something near perfection.

Mapping in PoE is more satisfying. High mob density, zoom zoom, loot filter, currency drops, and character progression feels great because of crafting and trading, so you have an actual goal.

D4 lacks everything. People are only playing it because it's Diablo.
