I can't figure out why im level 96 but my item level when drops is only 80 what is this ?

so i have one char level 96, and still my item find is only 80? i can understand if i had one under 60 and the item level was 80.

Item levels do not matter?

This is one of the better things from the patch

The level requirement for Sacred Items will now cap at level 60.
The level requirement for Ancestral Items will now cap at level 80.

This is all for alts. Rather then you’re 98 necro finding a great ring for you’re 80 sorc, you can now give it to her/him and they don’t need to wait tell 98 to use it.
