i dont know man. runewords were huge for d2 and may be outdated now, but the concept is still solid af. runewords 2.0 should of been one of the sickest parts about d3/d4. boggles my mind how blizzard didnt expand on that original concept, and i really think it contributed to d3s failure.
what was lazy was not balancing them. for me personnaly, and im sure im not the only one, runewords not being in d3 and now not in d4 is a major disappointment.

how are d3/d4 items not simply bringing more general power when they take skill xyz and literally do nothing more to it but multiply it 10,000 times?

agreed. they could have added onto the runeword system and did something crazy with it. my god the hype that would have created

I noticed people are dead set on the idea that there will be no runewords. I really do not understand why you think that. There will be runes, there will be runewords, just not in the initial release.

make sure you dont choke when drinking the koolaid... haha. it is entirely possible they never get added to the game. if you don't believe me, look what happened to d3 pvp. they literally just gave up on that huge aspect of the game despite it being a hot topic prior to release. because balancing was hard? lol
i understand things change during development, but in my mind runewords are a fundamental part of aspirational content in a perfect diablo world where getting high runes is actually difficult, or rather not available to the masses because of botting/dupes.

another thumbs down for me here.

exponential growth, increasing rarity, the hunt for the perfect base, etc... all great things the runeword system brought to the game. not to mention an unofficial form of currency besides plain old gold.

See this is one of my expectations of a sequel, an interesting item system like D2 had. Instead we're getting the same D3 legendary affix snooze fest that inspires no excitement.

The new Zelda looks 10x more exciting than the Diablo franchise at this point. You get more of the same Diablo 3 gameplay which was boring to begin with. Who fkin cares about a D3 clone?

An entirely new runeword system built from scratch would have been amazing but that requires effort and they dont want to spend much money, seeing as they reused all the D3 assets including sounds, skeletal rigging, tilesets, with upscaling and dimming. How people force themselves to be excited over the mediocre is beyond me. Aside from the lore nothing really stands out in this new iteration.

At least nintendo looks like they knocked it out of the park with totk so there's something to look forward to this year.

I've pondered for hours on how Diablo 4 could've stayed in development for such a long time when they rehashed and reused so much, like what in the hell were they doing? Working remote and having weekly debates on which facial changes or hair styles to use, just how fat is too fat for the druid? I'm dumbfounded..

They're lucky I wasn't a Lead Dev, I would have shit canned 80% of that team in the first week

as crossed said, the total opposite of complexity. they want it "for casuals". as a wfh dev myself, i guarantee you they did the bare minimum just to get that sweet salary. exactly what their corporate overlords tell them and nothing more. no heart or passion. which tbh, can't blame some devs, it's really the top people in charge who are fcking it up

Yeah that silent quitting technique makes sense, clock in, punch out, bare minimum, nothing more, and just no real passion, that summarizes up the development quite well.

I'd fire crossed too, his marketing techniques are bland but shoot he's the only one putting in the overtime for free, so guess I'll make sacrifices and keep him around
