I agree with you. It sucks to not have free open trade. Back when diablo 2 came out, it worked so well. The problem is that nowadays information is too readily available, and so are bots. This means if you try an open in-game economy in 2023 and beyond, the game is ruined by real money transactions and botting. As fun as it was back in the day with d2, its not possible anymore and it can't exist / be a focus in any serious triple A title that is not marketed as pay to win.

they've been around since d2 was released, and prob before that on other games. they will be around 500 years after we're gone too.
