You’re comparing a game made more than 20 years ago with today’s market. Of course d2 never reached those marks, today’s gaming market is blown up globally, faster internet. D2 was a cult classic,
You can’t put in words the thrill of finding a high rune or shako in d2 while playing legit to getting a shako in d4.
Itemization is ridiculous in d4, every item is handed to you like candy on halloween in less than a week, and none of them feel impactful not because they aren’t, it’s just because something is missing, not addiictive like d2 back in the day. For me at least, a loot driven arpg must be addictive.
