David Brevik shoved the soul stone into his head when he parted with Blizzard in 2003. He is the wanderer, until Blizzard gets him back (likely never now) they won't have the same spirit to the game.

I was just about to bring up David Brevik, and the original Blizzard North team. They did something special with Diablo 2.. They had synergy when creating the game together. All Blizzard had to do for Diablo3, and Diablo4, was to simply copy and paste Diablo2's WINNING formula and just add new maps, make the graphics nicer, add new classes, basically another expansion. I would chock it all up to the new development team wanting to implement ''their own ideas'' thinking they are good but in reality are shit.

There is a reason why games like Diablo 2 have been so successful and recent ARPGs struggle to continue this success.
You got to maximize profits, release the game on different platforms and different resolutions, make both casuals and more in depth players happy.
Back in the days studios put the main effort into the game design and playability.
It seems the same across all genres.

I personally don't have expectations, don't buy the game upfront and just see games as ways to milk their customers with ingame purchases.

Other than that I will still have fun.

I can see both ways work. Personally I could have seen D2R buffing stats from rare items, making them more common and thus allowing for a long term motivation besides regular xp farming.
If rare items are better than their unique counterparts, it opens up possibilities for a more sophisticated item system, crafting and looting. Studdenly rares become more exciting than just being mats like in D3.
I could see an interesting approach where you have a mixture of powerful rares like in d2 classic, sets, uniques and runewords.

ive bought the deluxe game but I just wanted the wings for D3. I am not excited for D4 at all because I am struggling to not skip walkthrough videos on youtube. In 5 seconds watching it makes me feel very bored.

Could you .. perhaps instead of being a doomsayer already wait with your infernal judgements till you at least have tried beta?!

- no runes
^ Its good! No more farming 1 specific item. This time actually items will matter. So you failed there.

- restricted trading
^ Its good! No more jsp ruining the game economy. People loose interest in the game when you get be bis geared within 1 freaking day of play. So you failed here again.

- there’s a battle pass LOL
^ Its good! Seen POE? Its not a game changer at all, so stop with your negative attitude towards something you have absolute zero clue about how will affect gameplay.. So you failed here again and again

- smart loot (worst thing that’s ever happened to diablo)
^ Its good! Like on restricted trading, JSP can't ruin the game. Still unclear what the end result will be, hopefully items can be traded with party members. So you failed here again and again and again.

So kid, please: If you wanna act cool and be Nancy negative all over, feel free when you at least have tried the freaking beta man.............. jessus fucking christ man. People nowadays :/
/facepalm x100

Ohh and you do know right, that many of those people who have been playing alpha and beta are praising the game for being awesome? Got 3 friends all playing beta and they absolute loved it. But I guess your word and opinion is the right approach?

In my opinion, making a game in 4K resolution is WAY harder than making Diablo 1 or 2 in 800x600.

Essentially what they are doing is they create a virtual reality, a bit like the architect created the Matrix or God who created the Earth.

Even if their team is comprised of many talented individuals, their talent always falls short of God's talent, and for even trying to replicate God's talent, they are rewarded with Hell in their own offices.

I just... What?

So let me dumb this down for you. 4k in itself is about resolution. You can use older models with a low count of polygons or vertices, and still run it in 4k. Heck, you can take the textures (basically a .png file), resize them to 4k/8k, and it will look pretty good!

Going 4k is more about hardware, and not so much development.

Let's get more technical here now.

If you're going 4k, chances are you're going to want high detail. The issue with games and high detail, is converting the 3d scene's number of polygons/vertices, into pixel data for the monitor. That means if your scene has 100 million polygons, unless it's running on a 4090, it's gonna lag.

100 million polygons isn't even that much detail. If every detail you see in games today was geometrically precise to what you saw, it would be waaaaay over 100 million poly per image. The reason it's not, is because someone smart decided, we can load a picture to paint the mesh with detail. This is called a texture. It is literally a .png or .bmp file, with details painted in. Scars, dents, cracks, etc... Most of this is done in textures.

To further optimize this, there's something called level of detail, where far away objects in the game, are rendered with a lower polygon count, and smaller sized textures. This optimizes calculations at run time.

If you're not a developer, you're probably thinking... blah blah blah, what does this even mean? Well, art in games is created in stages.

First, there's a concept stage, where different styles are drawn on (usually digital) paper. Once settled on a style, a 3d modeller will build a 3d model of it. When building the model, they usually add as much detail as they can at the get go. This results with a single model usually being over 100 million polygons on its own. Then, they need to optimize it, reducing the poly count. Then they start doing painting, texture work, and UV wrapping. Blah Blah what's the point? More powerful hardware = less optimization = less work.

That's not even considering unreal engine 5, and how they basically shredded the polygon cap.

TL;DR building a highly detailed game in 4k doesn't mean difficult. High fidelity graphics doesn't mean more work.

Yup, its gonna be a bad game, similar to mobile one and D3 with open world and big boss fights like WoW, and another red flag is that its cross platform from the start, that tells you alot about it. And everything you mentioned ofc.

Actually, cross platform support from the get go is likely because of the Microsoft Acquisition. They probably provided the API, and workflow to this in a straightforward manner.

the game will be good idk what yall are whining about. OH NO A $10 BATTLE PASS (every game in 2023 has one)
gameplay looks 10/10
world look 10/10
itemization is NOT bad, but not perfect.
it doesn't even resemble diablo 3 or immortal but okay.
end-game replayability is 100% speculation from EVERYONE because we don't know what it will be.

aside the fact 90% of the people complaining are going to buy it to play through it at least to end game anyway because it'll be worth doing anyway.
