Just watched ending on youtube. They don't even care to make new cinematics lol. It's a disgrace that they call this game Diablo 4, when it's nothing like D1 or D2. Dogshit 4.

barely, lol

at the time it was the best selling game ever. you seem to conveniently ignore context when looking at numbers...

No it wasn’t. It was #10 best seller in 2000. Try again

That’s if you don’t include Asian market. If you include Asian market it didn’t crack top ten in 2000.

D2 sold barely over 4 million. (Originsl D2)

My Blizzard journey started February 97

Quote
Following in the tradition of other Blizzard titles, Diablo II: Lord of Destruction becomes not only the sixth Blizzard product to sell 1 million copies, but also to reach #1 in U.S. sales. The expansion, which shipped on June 29, is topping most PC sales charts in North America, Europe and Asia. In its first week alone, the game captured a record 17.7 % percent of total U.S. PC game market share, also according to NPD INTELECT*.

This guy has no idea how significant "barely over 4 million" was during an era without steam.

Oh I think it’s significant but still not as popular today by even comparison. It sold half the units of the top seller its year of creation.

D4! Do you think it didn’t account for 17.7% of the us market sales it’s week of launch with virtually no competition?

Bro, it literally says it did that in its week of launch. Check out best selling games of 2000. Diablo 2 isn’t it. It didn’t maintain 17.7% all year it was at the initial point.

Literally the year gold/silver released and y’all are arguing it was top seller in 2k. It’s a farse. A lie.

D2 basically no legacy to go on - I played d1, but most didn't. Even less touched Hellfire. The PC gaming market was tiny at the time. Mostly because people didn't have computers to game on unless they were mega nerds. Especially true for younger people - parents just didnt have a computer to install a game like that on.

Fast forward to current day and there was literally no way d4 DIDN'T sell millions.

And it was THE top selling arpg EVER to date, including 2000.

I personally never said top selling of 2000, but again, arpg market was miniscule.

But the arguing here is pointless.

The most important thing is, regardless of how well d2 did or didn't do, and same with d4, it's what d2 did to the arpg industry and the standard it has set, and the other games that have came from it's existence, regardless of whether people played it or not.

Diablo 4 will never do that.

If we are talking legacy. I agree 1000%. That was never my argument. My only point was D4 and even d3 as much as I hate it pushed it from cult following hits to mainstream mainstays.

PS on a personal note I DESPISE D3. Worst game in the series.

If you played D and Hellfire they have it on GoG! I still have my battle chest though and My hellfire still in the jewel case.

I may check them out for another playthrough for nostalgia sake but they were so slow lol.

D3 grew on me, turning into a few day event with some friends most seasons. It was the start of mega-casual arpg gaming. I hate infinite scaling (I think it's lazy) but it seems to have stuck.

I wholeheartedly believe d4 sold on hype alone. They've had the last year to bring the game from a glorified beta ($100 beta that is), to something that at least has a general direction (gearing, bossing, "content" etc.).

To me, it feels intentional - they released it in an utter dogshit state to 1) test the waters, and 2) prove a point: people will eat shit if it's sold in a nice box. Here we are a year later, and because of this strategy, they were able to sell another $100 game, most of which should have honestly just been included in the base game.

Having OG copies is legit - unfortunately I've moved so much I don't have much of my childhood gaming shit, but all of my adult purcahses at least lol
