I said it has a higher CONCURRENT population than D2 EVER had. I’m comparing D2 at its prime to D4 at its current low.

The concurrent population after Release went to shit real quick tho. D4 lost players at an insane rate that never came back to the game.

The Player numbers were insanely low for the last few seasons.

They were still over 3million monthly. D2 NEVER reached that after a year of existence. Neither did D2R.

You know it’s a bunch of old D2 heads when they’re posting on jsp in 2024 instead of playing the expac. Love y’all.

I’ll join in when the bugs are ironed out and it’s on sale for $15!

2-4 expansions from now probably. We know for a fact at least 1 more expansion and unless it has Diablo himself it won’t be the last.

That's like comparing how many people flew every year in 1960 vs 2024. Gaming was a miniscule marketing during d2 ESPECIALLY pc gaming, and d2r was not released "for the masses".. It's basically retro gaming, a small market.

D4 is the mcdonalds nuggets and fries, way more customers than a ruth's chris.

It's why these games never last but always have "hIgHcOncUrReNtPlAyErBaSe". They sell a shitton, the game is average at best, and numbers adjust.

Blizzard also has a cult-like following (not much thanks to current management or devs imo - living on a legacy) - people will buy the new blizzard game, just like people will buy the new GTA - on name alone, 100 times over.

Lastly, the game doesn't have to be the "best" to have the most. Average stuff often holds highest market share - look at vehicles, appliances, phones etc etc..

They didn’t have a 3 million concurrent cult like following in the Diablo series for sure. Also I’d assume at least half are not OG series players. Most OG players I know prefer D2R.

It’s changing of the guard. Blizzard is 100% fine with letting old people who barely have time to game fade away from Diablo as long as they are replaced with triple the amount of young players.

Man I dunno how old you are, but when d2 released, but we're talking ps2 and n64 days man. Starcraft 2 sold 11million copies in 1998, and probably mostly non-domestic US sales. RPG gaming was still looked down on more than any other genre. People just didn't have computers for gaming. Don't even know anyone that I went to high school with that played d2.

You are just fixated on this 3million concurrent playerbase number like it means something more than what it means - lots of people bought something, again, like mcdonalds. Obviously if a lot buy it, the "highest concurrent number" is going to kind of reflect that.

Replacing with younger generation? That's the funny thing - they're not. They are counting on people with little time, less server strain and disposable income to buy, and not really play.

at the time it was the best selling game ever. you seem to conveniently ignore context when looking at numbers...
