In D1 and D2 you could basically equip everything on every character apart from a few class specific items like orbs or Pelts.
But I could swing a Two Hander with my Sorc if I'd wanted to or swing a Staff with my Barb. Not that it always made sense, but I had the freedom to decide for myself.
In D3 they abandoned that and in D4 we reached new heights for this. Shields are for Necros and necros only. Period.
Druids can only use Maces, Swords and Axes. Ranged Weapons are not allowed. No Staves. No Shields.
And so on and so forth....why the hell did they do that? Our drop pool in D4 is completely artificial. Almost everything that drops, drops because of the players character choice.
It just doesnt feel the way randomized loot should feel in my opinion.
It feels restricted and odd. This sucks - or am I wrong?
It's simple, d3 and now d4 heads to it's origins - world of warcraft. If you look closer diablo 3 and diablo 4 use all core concepts from wow - linear non random gear progression, general art style direction, idea of "legendary" items, even item colors now are similar - orange and purple. And, ofcourse, mmo elements also borrow ideas there.
