Act 2 nm on Diablo 3 release was like being runover by an Abrams tank for the majority of players. A complete failure from a game point of view. When you look at it from a % point of view of players, very few were getting through to Hell and a minutiae were completing the game. That sounds awesome for a driven gamer but it is not a business model and was never going to work. It is a very similar story with Diablo 4 since pre season (with regards to difficulty), the pendulum keeps swinging from the impossible to the "do it with your eyes closed" easy.
oh right but the second part of D3 difficulty was that better items dropped in later acts inferno, so if you did slug through those insanely high hp and damage monsters you were at least rewarded.
Problems were static location goblin in act 2, breaking stupid urns in act 4 and tyrael farming in act 4, and also later revealed archon glitch. Without those, the risk to reward was awesome. I may have got to do all of the above but still, finding rare ilvl 63 sword was AMAZING and would let you progress so much. Also gold was meaningful
In d4 when i started with barb on release it was just boring, barb did little to no damage and i had zero reward from it. it just felt bad, unlike d3.
