I don’t know they they specifically mentioned Poe but you could infer from a dev interview that’s the seasonal approach they didn’t particularly want. Right/wrong/otherwise they said something to the effect that they didn’t want a system where someone takes a few seasons off or tries to join several seasons into the game and you end up with a weird combination of a bunch of different seasonal themes layered on top of each other interacting in various ways.

Uh, Poe's content is quite a bit more involved than just one item in a socket.

So instead what we are going to get is them attempting to rebalance every 3 months for each new season to align with the new type of power creep thus making eternal characters worthless regardless. Brilliant
