See my comment about these types of games not being for you anymore.
You’re focusing on the wrong aspect of the game. Now don’t get me wrong, the other side of things (character “progression”) isn’t much better - but that really doesn’t take off until mid 60s, hence the “1-50 is a tutorial” mindset.
But if you’re playing these types of game for the story/content, or game play mechanics, you’re doing it wrong.
So who exactly is this game for? People with nothing to do that hear “this will take dozens of hours to be fun” and sign up for that?
You’re covering for an audience that barely exists that d4 didn’t Bank on selling to.
D4 banked on turning normies into hardcores by giving you identity and self expression that’s combined with an endless ladder.
D2 banked on you seeing new things happen in a game and figuring stuff out in real-time.
D4 is wow, d2 is counter strike. Before botting and the jsp became the norm, the game was actually hard to beat.
