D2r is dead. Maybe after an expansion with a decent endgame

All of the devs and team members on Diablo 4 look like they are being held hostage in some sort of undersea lab forced to create a perfect Beige vehicle for skin sales

You can believe that if you want to, but your argument that a particular forum was positive before the patch is meaningless if these negative voices have little history on there.

Not every game is for everyone.

Game has done far better than expected, by anyone. People "quitting" is normal. You don't get that. You go around taunting it as if it's abnormal. As if most gamers buy a game and that is their commitment to play it every day for years. They don't.

A lot of people pick up a new game to try it out or to play through the story. Even a game like this. Some continue on, others leave. If you think D2's launch went any differently, you're mistaken. There just weren't this many people on forums and other social media.

There are people that played through d4's campaign and never intended to do any more than that.

On top of that, it's the end of pre-season. Of course people are finishing up. I saw a post today, someone thought they were special because they "couldn't summon the effort to play their eternal realm character today", the day before season 1 begins.

It's hilarious. I'm a Final Fantasy fan. If I posted to r/finalfantasy that "I completed most of the content of ff16 today, now I can't summon the effort to play it again today", everyone would laugh their asses off at me, and they should.

Now, Diablo 4 is a seasonal dungeon looter, a bit different from ff16, and we all knew that long before release, esp. About seasons (even though some of the attention whores have been feigning ignorance the past month in order to have yet another axis to complain on). The playerbase survives, and it will be better off without the troglodytes that whined incessantly about every thing they could think of.

Among the playerbase, some will never come back, having gotten what they wanted from the game. Some will continue playing their eternal char. Some will continue in season 1. Some will take a break and come back later.

It's not a bad thing. The people that are quitting because they hate the game, if they're posting about it, they're doing it for attention. They're a minuscule minority no one gives a fuck about, so they post some self-righteous bs about boycotting a video game so they can get a little validation from the anonymous internet circlejerk that hates on literally anything made "for money" as they believe. "Hurr durr...fight tha powah"

The game is doing that all on it's own. Posts don't really change minds. Patches do though.

not sure if i agree with that. a ton of people used forums back then, way more than now. jsp and other diablo 2 forums were so insanely active. "there just weren't this many people on forums" seems unequivocally false.
