 I get that this is your opinion, but damn, you must be one of the only people who actually think this, or you have very little exposure to anything else.
TBH if I saw just that one part posted by itself, I'd think it was 100% sarcasm dogging on the game, not your actual thought, because the world is bland, not sure what instances you are referring to as "great" and itemization is like picking the color of your sprinkles on ice cream thinking it tastes any different with green than blue.
Of course I actually think that. I played extensively almost every RPG / ARPG / TBS / TBAS on the market (except some asian games as I really don't dig the style) and for me none of the other games engines are even at 50 % of what D4 is. Does Last Epoch have extremely good mechanics / itemization wise - FUCK Yea it has that. But cannot enjoy either the world, story, lore, graphics, how you to move to zones. Do I play it every season ... yeah most likely. Is PoE super complex ? FUCK YES it is. You can dabble in hundreds of builds with decent itemization, half assed story. Lore is bullshit. But god damn it looks like a vomit on my screen. Cannot play that shit, except the occasional season when I am bored of all my other games. Grim Dawn was so fucking good. Played all of it like crazy--- but I am bored of it. That game had everything for me, just simply don't want to replay it anymore.
Now to D4. Obviously the "Story" in itself was gonna take a hit. This Franchise wasn't thought through initially for that many sequels. So now we live in a Diablo game without Diablo (obviously also for financial purposes). But the lore in itself is gg for me. The open World was a blast to discover in the beginning and even now to revisit through the helltides. Slowly going to have all my beloved Bosses from D2 and soon enough being able to farm them in a decent and meaningful way. Not just fucking teleporting liek a madman at hteir feet, hit them with blizzard and see if I get 6 town portal scrolls - and yes I am one of those who still play every D2R ladder reset and yes I still play Classic D2 on a private server kept by me and a friend up since about 8 years now for a closed community of around 20 people.
The itemization is solid in D4, no matter what you munchkins keep saying about it. Would I have wished that the weapon damage concept wouldn'T be that strong in the game... yes I admit that. But times evolve so do game mechanics, concepts, etc. It's more digestable by you know... the younger generations, so in the end I ain't gonna leave that small shit deter me in having fun. Would I wish for a purpose for yellow and blues, hell yes! DO I really want to pick up every fucking yellow to see if I get erep perfect stats and sockets .... nah bruh, no need that shit. Nor I don't need to find me that 4 socketed block increeased blue shield. Still I'd like some purpose to the items, I don'T have a solution for it tho. Would I love to see runes, runewords, sets, charms down the line? Yes I would. But I don't mind them coming in the game with any other expansion later. Would I love to see base building and an auction house? Yes and YES! There's so much that can come in the game. Do I love to PVP in D4? Don't love it but but absolutely enjoy it. Is it balanced - nope. Is there any balanced PVP in any RPG or even Arena simulator? NOPE there isn't. There are always snowball builds and TANK builds and ocasional meme builds. That's how it works.... there's always gonna be that build that defies all other mechanics or makes the game bland.
Dungeons / Endgame in D4 for me personally are really nice. So we clearly have just a few types of dungs but I dig all of them and what they bring to the feelign and lore of the game. Hopefully in the future we get a few more layouts or patterns let's call them. And as of endgame - I find it quite decent. There is a lot to farm for - gear min maxing, the random variables on the items + masterworking and tempering - great loophole. There is literally always something you can improve until .. your're done if you've played probably thousands of hours in a season or you have a huge community helping you out (pretty nice aspect to be fair). Then you've got now the endless Pit // Infernal Hordes as a really great concept in my opinion with the return of some badasses from D2 - love it. For whoever like that kinds of stuff even the free cosmetics every season is nice to farm and collect. Playing this game with music/in game sound is also absolutely brilliant.... I do have it off when I play with mates which is most of the time, but damn when I just game alone and have it turned on, i just enjoy it a lot.
So yeah man not sure what puts you off about the game exactly, but I find a plethora of things to enjoy. I do hope and wait for many other things to come and I am sure it will, but I am having a blast since day 1 in this game.
Cheers bud
