i believe initially they wanted to cater to the crowd that hated backtracking and simpletons. then it backfired after all the arpgs enthusiasts came out of the woodwork (including llama), and said what in tarnation is this
you put a lot of effort in your posts. sadly, we're all just beating a dead horse at this point
Yeah they forgot the rpg part, along with designing easily forgettable levels. When you homogenize things to a certain degree, everything blends together. It's very similar to their itemization design - "WOW now EVERYTHING caN BE LEGENDARY ISN"T THAT GREAT?!" Except nothing feels legendary if everything is. Level design, they're all nothing spectacular just "meh". Like a game that was made entirely out of only from stock assets from a game engine.
I don't mind continually harping on them. They deserve it for putting out the most insipid diablo ever made.
Developers have been doing this for quite some time now, releasing unfinished games though.
